This short autoroute links St-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu to the Eastern-Townships Autoroute (
A-10). Once, this freeway had at-grades (St. André and Israel Rds.) and was called New-England Expressway because its main carriage
ends at R-133 wich itself ends at
Interstate 89 in Vermont State. MTQ is planning to extend A-35 south and northward.
Finally, an utopist project shows A-35 following Fréchette Blvd. corridor to connect with R-116 expressway in Mt. Saint-Hilaire.
Some pro-roads groups proposed to extend A-35 northward to Sorel-Tracy and build a new bridge to it to Joliette.
The exits number of A-35 were patched in the 90's (when removed the at-grades) to fit exit 1 with the actual southern
terminus instead of with the proposed terminus in Phillipsburg. The northern terminus (Jct
A-10) is a breezewood, due to a past toll at this interchange
Note that the 4-lanes divided at-grade expressway in Philippsburg is also known as "Autoroute de la Vallée-des-Forts"
by Comission de Toponymie du Québec, the governemental office for roads and places name.
